ARTIS Royal Zoo

Natura ARTIS Magistra, fondly known as ARTIS, is based in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. It encompasses the ARTIS Royal Zoo and two museums: ARTIS-Micropia and ARTIS-Groote Museum. Making it even more special, the Royal Zoo is part of the city’s historic city, which includes a botanical garden, aquarium, and planetarium.
Meanwhile, ARTIS-Micropia is the first museum in the world to reveal the invisible world of micro-organisms. Rounding off the trifecta is the interactive ARTIS-Groote Museum, which showcases the connection between humans, animals, plants, microbes, and Earth itself.
ARTIS Royal Zoo was ready to upgrade its ticketing process, determined to improve experiences for visitors and staff alike. With this move, the beloved attraction hoped to optimise retail operations, counter sales, membership management, and visitor administration.

The challenge
Natura ARTIS Magistra was already using Recreatex by Vintia for its sales, retail, membership, and general visitor administration. To assure quick visitor access and flow, the organisation also opted for integration with our access control system.
However, ARTIS Royal Zoo required a new solution to stabilise its on-premise systems. After appointing an external project manager and establishing several working groups, the organisation had a clearer picture of its specific needs. This opened the door to finding the right partner for the project.
Vintia stood out for our extensive knowledge and experience in the sector. However, the look and feel of our advanced POS (Point-of-Sale) system also strongly appealed to ARTIS Royal Zoo.
Additionally, Natura ARTIS Magistra wanted a solution that would integrate with its current CRM (customer relationship management) software system, Scope, and the financial processing program, Exact. Vintia’s automation functionality could offer the appropriate tools to ensure seamless integration between these software systems.
The solution
Vintia’s solutions have had an immediate effect at ARTIS Royal Zoo. For instance, Recreatex ensures fast and easy ticket sales and booking processing. This is accomplished through modules such as Ticketing, POS, Membership, Bookings, and File management.
Having the correct information is essential for good policy-making. Financial modules like Financial Administration, Direct Debit, Stock and Business Intelligence offer the necessary support.
Recreatex also comes with extensive built-in management and reporting features. For example, the Recreatex Business Intelligence tool is specifically developed to quickly create pivot tables, charts and data sheets about Key Performance Indicators. Management can access relevant data in no time to make more effective decisions.
Meanwhile, the Webshop allows visitors to buy tickets online. However, they can also purchase them at the entrance using one of seven integrated POS systems. More POS systems at the on-site souvenir shop allow ARTIS Royal Zoo to make sales through Recreatex.
At ARTIS-Micropia, we have installed two POS systems that visitors can use to buy tickets. Additionally, ARTIS-Groote Museum has been equipped with a POS ticketing system at the entrance and a POS system at the shop.
Physical access control systems have not been installed at the ARTIS Royal Zoo entrance. Instead, enthusiastic staff members welcome visitors and scan tickets using a mobile scanner. This personal approach fully fits the Zoo’s policy.
With over 90,000 members, finding effective solutions for membership management was paramount. The software application Scope processes all membership data for the Zoo, while Scope CRM handles price calculation and membership validity checks. Since Recreatex now manages invoicing and access control, ensuring a seamless integration with Scope was primary. Vintia Automations closely collaborated with Scope to achieve successful interfacing, offering an important added value to ARTIS Royal Zoo.
