Rudy Dupuis recently joined Carlota Pico to discuss his role as senior global social media strategist at Clarins, a French luxury skincare and makeup company. He talked about managing the brand’s global platforms and overseeing more than 30 local accounts to make sure they’re aligned with the global strategy.

Rudy discussed platforms and features like Instagram and Reels, and how Clarins has been working with influencers to maximize their value. He told us about how the brand used TikTok to launch a new range of products for younger generations. He also explained the beauty of online learning resources, especially when it comes to emerging tools, trends and tech.

Rapid-fire recs:

  • Source of inspiration: Richard Branson. “He’s the kind of person I want to be: a successful business man and a good family man. I also love a quote he once said which was along the lines of ‘Good things never happen when you always say no.’ Basically, say yes to new things and enjoy the ride.”
  • Useful resources: Instagram and LinkedIn. “They’re good for getting inspiration—but make sure you’re following quality people.”
  • Favorite app: Mapstr. “It’s really the app I wish I invented. You can keep track of the places you visit (restaurants, bars, cafes, etc.) and easily discover new ones. I love it!”

Marketing is always about learning and being open to new things. I remember years ago when people would say, “Oh, influencer marketing? It will never catch on! It’s not a thing.” And now everybody’s doing it. You just have to adapt and be open to change.
